sanitizing fresh water tank
« on: September 05, 2010, 06:56:20 PM »
The period of time between camping trips varies a lot with our family.  Is a 2-3 month period of time too long to go without redoing the job?  How long would you go before getting out the chlorox?

Pletch

I wouldn't think it would be necessary to do a full-blown sanitizing job that frequently...just drain your fresh water tank (including the water heater) between trips.  You can add 1/2 teaspoon of bleach for every 5 gallons of water when you fill the tank back up prior to a trip.

Thanks for the advice.  I'll use chlorox for this trip.

If you're refilling the tank from a city water source you shouldn't need to add the clorox since city water is already chlorinated.
