City water connection
« on: May 22, 2010, 04:03:24 PM »
We just bought a used travel trailer and have a few questions about plumbing.  If I connect to the City Water Connection, does the fresh water tank fill?  The manual says that the water heater will fill first but doesn't mention the fresh water tank.  My manual mentions using a water pressure regulator if the city water connection is used.  Where is that installed?  All this makes it sound as if the pressure at the sinks is determined by the city pressure and not the RV's water pump.  Is that right? Thanks for your advice.

Regards,
Pletch

Most RV's do not fill the water tank when you attach to city water hook up, but there are a few that have diverter valves for that purpose. Most have a fill valve with a screw on cap somewhere on the outside of the RV for filling the fresh water tank.

Yes the pressure will be determined by the city water pressure when hooked to it. Many RV manufacturers recommend a water pressure controller. These can be purchased at most WalMart stores in the RV section or at RV stores anywhere. They attach either to the faucet or the end of the hose where it hooks to the RV.

Hope this helps and Happy RVing.  8) ;D

Thanks for your reply.  We are gaining on our list of repairs and servicing chores.  I believe all systems are working properly.  I found a water pressure controller for use with city pressure.  Thanks for the tip on the wide pressures that we might encounter.
